History Channel Interview

Yesterday was a crazy cool day.  Our PI was chosen to be interviewed by the History Channel for two shows called "Ancient Aliens" and "Invasion: Earth".  Our lab has nothing to do with aliens and I don't think anyone in the lab really even believes that we have come from aliens and/or that aliens invaded earth and passed their DNA onto us (sorry Scientologists), but they were interviewing about general science questions for their show, so it seemed anyways.

We had to clean up the lab the day before, get things organized and presentable for the camera.  I'm always down for clean/organize anything :D so I felt right at home with that.  We also had to make sure, if we were in the lab when they were filming to be on our best safety behavior.  Meaning, lab coats, gloves and goggles on at all times.  We normally only wear gloves and the rest of the stuff is worn when we feel like it (ha!), but in case OSHA or EH&S watched or saw...we could get into trouble :D but luckily, they didn't film us, and we actually ended up having to be really quite during the filming, so we just sat around and watched...you know, moral support and all.

It was cool to watch the set up and the interview, and hear our PI answer their questions with great ease and eloquence.  They do some neat things while setting up...I'm going to keep some of the secrets for now :D They may or may not come back later to film some of us doing "cool sciency things" as they called it, but for now I'm going to try to avoid the camera if at all possible, but it was cool to be a part of this nonetheless.  The show is supposed to air sometime in the Fall, so I'm sure we'll know more later and I'll have more details to share.

Makeup time :D

Shirt change...he matched with the darkness too much.

Fashion Fighting Famine 2013

This past Sunday I went to the Fashion Fighting Famine 2013 Fashion Show.  Check out my post from last year.  This year, Fashion Fighting Famine supports New Star Family Center, a nonprofit organization for helping victims of domestic violence and to also create a center for placement of children into the foster care and adoption system.

My pictures came out terribly this time around, so I don't have too many to share.  The lighting was awful for my little camera and maybe I just have crappy picture skills, but i'm very disappointed...so many apologies from the start.

 Real roses :)

There was also a live performance by Yuna Zarai, the very talented Malaysian singer-songwriter.  She has an amazing voice, mashallah.  Check her out.

Here's a 4 minute clip of Yuna Zarai, performing her song titled, Island

Check out my friend's website on more better shots from the fashion show at Ritzy Foto.

Vacation Fun

Surprisingly i'm still exhausted from my mini break last week.  What is it about vacations that make you more tired at the end of them.  Isn't the whole point of a vacation to get some rest and relaxation?  It seems every time I take a break from school/work, it's harder to get back into it.  And, well, it's Monday, and I hate Mondays.  But on a happier note, i'm only 4 days away from another weekend :D haha!

Here are a few snippets from last last weekend.

Coffee date with my mum at Le Pain Quotidien :)

We did some quick shopping and found some cute things!! Check out her new bangles :) I'm so jealous she can fit into bangles....

My mom has a love for elephants.  She has a small collection of elephant figurines, and I think this necklace adds perfectly to her collection :)

The hubby and I took a short trip to the beach last Tuesday.  It was really lovely to finally have some time together.  It's been a while and as with all great things, too short! One of my favorite beaches is Corona Del Mar.  The view from the top of the cliff is amazing and we got lucky with wonderful weather!

Coffee and Sprinkles Cupcakes

Cinnamon sugar and my favorite, pumpkin.

A small hint of a rainbow made its way across the sky :)

Grilled chicken with mediterranean salad from Pita Grill.  It's was spicy, but oh so good.

My husbands niece and nephew left last Monday and my in-laws house was filled with their toys.  The toys had to be sorted back into their respective bins (Legos in one, cars in another, blocks in their box...) before they could be put away, but somehow the men got distracted with "organizing" and ended up playing.  The next hour and half of the evening was spent playing with Legos.

I made a pretty little garden, while trying to sort out the cars and blocks from the legos :D

that was then attacked by a fighter jet/machine thingy...sad day for my pretty garden...sigh, MEN!
