Toothbrush Adventures

Funny story.  I spent the last hour, yes, one hour trying to change my toothbrush head.  I swear, I don't think I can get any dumber.  We have the Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite electric toothbrushes and being the frugal (cough, cheap) person that I am, I have not changed the toothbrush head for over 6 months now.  Ok, actually it's been almost 10 months, since we bought them.  It seemed to be just fine and those heads aren't cheap and besides the bristles were still intact, so what does it matter.  Ya, the little blue indicator part of the brush has been white for a while, but that could be because I zapped the living daylights out of it every week (with the fancy shmancy UV zapper that came with it).  So, it still looks fine to me.

Exhibit A

Anyways...back to my story.  So, I decided, ok, enough is enough, cheapness aside, it's time to change the heads.  I bought a 7 head replacement pack a few weeks after we bought the toothbrushes from Costco (about 10 months ago), but had never opened it.  So sadly, I started to open the package.  Let me take this time now to point out that the genius who designed the packaging is a moron.  It took me a good 5 minutes just to open the thing.  I guess I could have used scissors, but that's not the point.

Exhibit B

Anyways, so I got the new head out and when I came to put the new head onto the toothbrush it wouldn't fit.  WHAT?  YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. How does this not fit?  I checked the package a million times before I bought it and it says that it fits the HealthyWhite series.  Uh.  Maybe it is wrong?  Shoot, what did I do this time.

So, of coures, first thing I do, google it.  I googled the product I had...checked the accessory part of the website (which took me about 5 minutes to find...lousy website, let me tell you) and long story short, everything says these are the right heads.  A few reviews said the replacement heads fit on tighter, but I pushed really hard and it didn't.  So, I tried it again...tried to squeeze the head on, not pushing too hard to break the thing, but it still wouldn't go on.  OH MY GOD.  Back to google...check reviews, check recalls, check Costco's website, check amazon...long story short, I couldn't find anything on the internet about badly made toothbrush heads that don't fit my toothbrush.  Anyways...I continued to search till I finally gave up, closed up all the packaging and put it (threw it) by the door to return to Costco.

As I stared annoyingly at this stupid pack of 7, so angry that it cost me $50 bucks for them all and now I had to try to return it (waste gas) and now find new heads, I decided I would try one more time to fit those heads onto the toothbrush.  So I grabbed the head again and pushed it onto the toothbrush and guess what...it fit.  WHAT THE @#$%!.

Yes that little gap...if it doesn't snap on, the thing vibrates off.
Just, don't ask...

Sigh...I don't know what to say. But if there is any other poor soul out there that had the dumbest moment of their life trying to change a toothbrush head at 12am (especially the Sonicare HealthyWhite ProResults replacement brush heads), then read this post. The product is not faulty, the replacement heads are not faulty, there is no recall and it's not your husbands fault. You are faulty.

I do recommend this product though, for those interested.  It really makes your teeth feel clean and whiter, much more so than a manual toothbrush.  It came with 2.5 years of warranty, and I did have to get a replacement handle.  It seems that if you let the battery empty (a bad habit the hubby has), it isn't able to recharge and goes all haywire and starts to turn on and off on its own.  So, keep it charging at all times.  This product comes with three settings, but I only use the first one.  Personally, I think all electric toothbrushes are the same.  I don't think I can recommend one over the other, except to say, an electric toothbrush really does clean your teeth much more than a hand powered one. So, it's definitely a product to consider.  And yes, in case you're wondering, the replacement heads are great...sigh...
